Backup/ Restore FAQ

1. How to take Backup of my data via WinMoney?

  1. Close all forms,
  2. Follow menu path System -> Backup,

  1. Select the backup drive by clicking on combobox (Text box with black arrow) below Backup To 
  2. Select folder from tree below drive combobox
  3. Click on custom in case you want to take backup of custom folder (containing customized bill formats & reports)
  4. Click on backup, it will show the file (MoneyDDMMYY i.e. Money151002.MDB for date 15/10/02) which is being copied to backup folder, 
  5. Click ok, message will come that backup complete, click ok.
This back up will contain the full data upto date. This data cannot be viewed by you (if you double click on backup file, system will prompt for password). To view the data you will have to restore & see.

2. How to take Backup of my data via windows ?

  1. Close Program
  2. Go to My computer
  3. Locate folder to be copied - where your data is there.
  4. Copy the folder (Yellow color folder in explorer) 
  5. Goto the drive/ folder where you want to take backup
  6. Right click in empty space in explorer & paste

Your data will be copied in backup folder or drive, which you can verify double clicking on Money.exe (File with icon book).

3.How to Restore data via WinMoney ?

  1. Close all forms 
  2. Follow menu path System -> Restore

  1. Select the drive by selecting arrow below  restore from
  2. Select folder where backup is stored 
  3. In case of multiple folder please make sure that backup file name matches with folder id
  4. System will show available backups below file tree
  5. Select backup file (MoneyDDMMYY i.e. Money151002.mdb for date 15/10/02)
  6. Click on restore, it will show the file which is restoring to program, click ok, message will come that restore over, click ok. 
  7. If your backup is of old version then program will close and come out to Windows. Restart program.

4.How to Restore data from specific drive, folder?

  1. Close Program
  2. Go to My computer
  3. Locate folder by following the procedure of locate winmoney folder
  4. Copy the folder (Yellow color folder in explorer) 
  5. Goto the drive/ folder where you want to restore
  6. Right click in empty space in explorer & paste
  7. In case of existing data system will prompt you before overwriting the data.
  8. Now you can double click on Money Icon, the system will start with restored data

5. How to delete old backups ?

Select system -> Check Files, system will show list of all "winMoney" data files. 
To delete select any of the file and then press delete or double click.
In case during this if there is any problem delete via windows by following method.
    >
  1. Click on Start 
  2. Search
  3. Files & Folders
  4. Named - Money*.mdb
  5. Look in select (Local Hard drives c:d:e:)
  6. System will show available backups or money folders in search result window
  7. Delete unwanted backups or data by pressing delete key

6. Backup failure.

During backup if system gives error then follow the procedure below
  1. Look for a file (via start -> find file) scrrun.dll on hard disk and find the directory where it is lying. 
  2. UnRegister this control by giving following command in Start -> Run Regsvr32 /u \scrrun.dll
  3. System will display scrrun.dll unregister succeeded
  4. Delete this file.

7. Multiple folder backup.

In case of multiple folders (due to different companies or different financial year) on the same system, it is required to identify the backup with Backup Date as well as Folder Id.
How to set the folder id
  1. Goto system -> Set system parameters. 
  2. Enter 2 character folder id 
  3. Click OK
  4. System will prompt with user path set
  5. When you restart the system folder Id will be shown in WinMoney Status bar
After this backup with created with folder id prefix e.g. MoneyAB120104 where "AB" is folder id.

8. Backup of custom folder.

Custom folder consist of report/ barcode templates made specifically for the customer, these files are not backuped automatically during backup.

User will have to specifically check custom folder check box during backup stage. This checking in will create a folder name Custome120104 where 120104 is system date.

9. Backup on CD writer fails.

For direct backup to CD writer, CD writer must be open in direct mode (preferably with rewritable CD). You can check direct mode by adding or removing files via Windows explorer. One the CD writer is in Direct mode, WinMoney will backup to writer without any problem.

In some cases full CD write software is not installed, leading to disabling of direct mode write on CD. Please ensure that complete software is installed from hardware vendor.
